Small Animal Veterinary Externships
Who?: Current/incoming veterinary students

What?: Externship includes exposure to all aspects of small animal private practice including wellness/preventative care, surgery (routine/advanced soft tissue and orthopedic), dentistry, and sick pet/internal medicine cases. A small amount of exotic species exposure as well, pending appointment schedule.

Objective: To gain an understanding/improve one’s comfort level in a busy small animal private practice.

When?: 1-2 week allotment per student; available year round

Where?: Experience will include time in all 3 practices, pending caseload. The focus will be on providing experiences in all areas listed above with time spent in the different practices, accordingly.

Other things to note:
**Only ONE small animal student to be scheduled at a time
**Attire: business casual (no jeans) or scrubs; if wearing business attire, have scrubs available

Large Animal Veterinary Externships
Who?: Current/incoming veterinary students

What? Externship includes ambulatory equine medicine with a small amount of other large animal species (ie: goats, bovine, sheep etc.) with focus on general & preventative medicine, equine dentistry, field surgeries, equine emergencies, equine chiropractic care, lameness, etc.

Objective:  To become comfortable with routine equine medicine and care.

When?: 1-2 week allotment per student from March 15th through November 15th

Where?: Plan to meet out of Janesville clinic location unless otherwise directed prior to externship.

Other things to note: 
**Only ONE equine student to be scheduled at a time
**Appropriate equine attire required– close-toed shoes/boots, no jeans, professional or academic shirt
** An opportunity would be available to spend time in mixed animal (general small animal practice) a few days a week if interested

Business of Veterinary Medicine Externships

Who?: Third and fourth year veterinary students

What?: Externship includes exposure to all aspects of the business-side of veterinary medicine and clinical experience with our small and large animal doctors

Objective:  To gain experience in clinical mixed animal practice, broaden business acumen and leadership skillsets necessary for business ownership and management

When?: Two weeks per student; available year round

Where?: Experience will include time in all 3 small animal practices and with our ambulatory equine team. Focus will be on research projects and time with internal management team.

Other things to note: 
1-2 SVM to be scheduled at a time
Attire: business casual (no jeans) or scrubs; if wearing business attire, have scrubs available
